Kane Biotech Awarded Patent for Compositions and Methods to Inhibit Biofilm Formation

WINNIPEG, MANITOBA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 05/14/07 -- Kane Biotech Inc. (TSX VENTURE: KNE), a biotechnology company engaged in the development of products that prevent and disperse microbial biofilms, has been awarded Patent No. 2,452,032 to protect compositions and methods of inhibiting biofilm formation in a variety of applications, including medical devices. The patent, entitled "Synergistic Antimicrobial Compositions and Methods of Inhibiting Biofilm Formation", has been awarded by the Canadian Intellectual Property Office.

This is the second new patent awarded to Kane within the last six months, bringing the Company's estate of issued and pending patents to over thirty. The novel technology was developed by Kane's Research and Development team.

"We are very pleased to see our novel research recognized by patent offices at home and abroad. I believe this is a testament to our strong team and our research capabilities. We are extremely enthusiastic about the future of Kane as we continue to grow our patent estate and work to see our novel products commercialized", stated Mr. Gord Froehlich, President of Kane Biotech Inc.

An estimated 80% of all human bacterial infections involve biofilms. Biofilms pose human health problems as they develop on surfaces such as catheters, prosthetic implants, inner ears, teeth, gums, lungs and the urogenital tract. Biofilms also pose major problems in industry as they grow on surfaces of water tanks, pipes, and food processing containers and are difficult and costly to remove.

About Kane Biotech Inc.

Kane Biotech is a biotechnology company engaged in the development of products to prevent and disperse bacterial biofilms. Biofilms develop when bacteria, and other microorganisms, form a protective matrix that acts as a shield against attack. When in a biofilm, bacteria become highly resistant to antibiotics, biocides, disinfectants, high temperatures and host immune responses. This resiliency contributes to human health problems such as recurrent urinary tract infections, medical device associated infections and tooth decay.

Kane Biotech Inc. uses a patent protected technology based on molecular mechanisms of biofilm formation and methods for finding compounds that inhibit or disrupt biofilms. The Company has evidence that this technology has potential to significantly improve the ability to prevent and/or destroy biofilms in several medical and industrial applications.
